Job Description
This consultancy involves designing a flexible prototype framework for mapping and visualizing the funding ecosystem for impact-driven innovators and entrepreneurs, focusing on optimizing capital flows and structures across different stages of scaling, with stakeholder validation and sector customization.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a rapid landscape review of available capital across IDIA member agencies and synthesize evidence on innovation financing frameworks.
- Map the existing Capital Continuum across the six-stage IDIA Scaling Framework and identify gaps and opportunities for efficiency.
- Identify typical financial needs of innovators and entrepreneurs at different scaling stages and analyze diverse Capital Stacks from case studies.
- Design an interactive white-label online model illustrating an optimal Capital Continuum and Capital Stacks tailored to different sectors and stages.
- Facilitate validation workshops with stakeholders, gather feedback, and refine the framework model accordingly.
Requirements
- Proven experience in innovation financing, especially within the development or impact ecosystem.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing financial frameworks or instruments such as blended finance, venture support, or catalytic capital.
- Familiarity with entrepreneurial pathways and the innovation scaling journey, including accelerators, social enterprises, and venture studios.
- Experience conducting rapid landscape analyses and synthesizing complex financial systems.
- Ability to facilitate virtual and/or in-person stakeholder consultations and co-creation workshops.
- Excellent skills in data visualization, financial modeling, and report writing.
- Work to commence no later than 8 September 2025 and conclude no later than 31 December 2025.
- Capability to produce deliverables including a baseline Capital Continuum Map, a review of innovator and entrepreneur financing needs, a prototype White Label Framework, validation workshops, and a final recommendations report.
- Capacity to develop an interactive, user-friendly online model that visualizes the optimal Capital Continuum and Capital Stacks across the six stages of the IDIA Scaling Framework, with flexibility for different sectors and types of innovation.
- Experience in building or advising on capital stacks or conducting capital mapping exercises (desirable).
- Knowledge of prior work with IDIA member agencies or similar innovation funders (desirable).
- Familiarity with African innovation ecosystems and related capital flows (desirable).
- Access to networks of funders and innovators for consultation (desirable).
