Job Description
The Ecological Restoration Technician II will work primarily in the field on projects such as stream restoration, invasive species management, planting, and habitat restoration, utilizing equipment and techniques to restore ecosystems and protect natural resources. The role involves hands-on outdoor work, equipment operation, plant identification, and potentially earning certifications related to habitat management.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate field equipment such as trucks, UTVs, brush cutters, augers, and chainsaws safely.
- Use GPS systems to navigate and document work sites.
- Identify native and invasive plant species to guide restoration efforts.
- Mix and apply herbicides to manage invasive plant species.
- Implement invasive species management programs to restore ecosystem balance.
- Participate in planting and seeding projects to support habitat restoration.
- Assist with prescribed burns and obtain necessary certifications.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and upkeep.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including walking over uneven terrain.
Requirements
- High School degree or equivalent.
- Reliable means of transportation to get to the field office.
- Keen interest in natural resources and outdoors.
- At least 1 year of work experience in ecological restoration or in the natural resources field.
- Ability to read and understand project plans, details, and specifications.
- Commercial Pesticide Technician Apprentice License in the applicable categories for the assigned state.
- Knowledge of native and invasive plant species applicable to the assigned state.
- Experience mixing and applying herbicides for managing invasive species for at least 1 year.
- Experience performing planting and seeding techniques for at least 1 year.
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Physical ability to walk over uneven surfaces and up and down hills.
- Physical ability to climb on construction equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather.
