Job Description

A hands-on Restoration Technician II role focused on ecological restoration projects, involving fieldwork such as planting, invasive species control, erosion management, and prescribed burns, to restore and protect natural ecosystems in remote areas around Lakeland, FL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support field execution of ecological restoration projects, including planting, seeding, erosion control, and invasive species removal
  • Operate and maintain various equipment such as trucks, UTVs, skid steers, chainsaws, and GPS units
  • Inspect and support subcontractor work to ensure quality, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Conduct prescribed burns in accordance with certifications and safety protocols
  • Interpret project plans and ensure fieldwork aligns with restoration standards and goals
  • Train and mentor field staff on equipment operation, plant identification, herbicide handling, and restoration practices
  • Complete daily work logs, upload project documentation, and communicate material and personnel needs

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 2 years of field experience in ecological restoration or related work
  • Valid Commercial Pesticide Applicator License in applicable categories or ability to obtain one
  • Proficiency operating and maintaining field equipment, including trailers, skid steers, chainsaws, backpack sprayers, GPS units, and other heavy machinery
  • Proven experience conducting herbicide treatments and identifying native and invasive plant species
  • Advanced use of GPS mapping tools
  • Experience leading field crews and training others in restoration tasks
  • Experience with prescribed fire and valid S130 S190 certifications per region
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 75% of the time throughout South and Central Florida
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, walk over uneven surfaces and up and down hills, climb on construction equipment, and work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Willingness to work in remote locations and support field crews in implementing restoration tasks such as planting, seeding, erosion control, herbicide application, and invasive species removal
  • Ability to interpret project plans and ensure fieldwork aligns with planting plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and invasive management standards
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance on equipment such as chainsaws, skid steers, 0-turn mowers, welding equipment, and tractors
  • Model proper PPE usage and facilitate daily safety meetings
  • Maintain a Samsara driving score above 70
