Key Responsibilities
- Own and oversee critical equipment packages within the plant from design to commissioning
- Design equipment and plant layouts to meet functional requirements, including space, cost, and flexibility considerations
- Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for fabrication and installation
- Track fabrication progress, oversee QA/QC, and manage factory site acceptance tests
- Coordinate equipment installation and commissioning activities
- Design and integrate plant utility systems, including waste management and utilities for gases, liquids, and hazardous materials
- Develop system-level mass and energy balances and manage equipment to rectify imbalances
- Prototype lab-scale systems to de-risk commercial designs
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure design fit-for-purpose and optimize plant layout
- Identify physical phenomena critical to design and progress designs amidst uncertainties
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
- Full ownership of critical equipment packages within the plant, including designing equipment to satisfy functional requirements either with vendors or independently.
- Propose clearly thought-out solutions with means to manufacture, including cost and lead time details.
- Produce 2D drawings and 3D model details to initiate fabrication.
- Track fabrication, oversee QA/QC, and manage Factory Site Acceptance Tests.

- Coordinate cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure design fit-for-purpose.
- Define plant utility requirements working with infrastructure teams on design.
- Design systems for managing waste streams, including gas, liquid, hazardous, and combustible waste.
- Track full-system mass and energy balances and manage equipment design to rectify any imbalances.
- Selectively prototype lab pilot-scale systems to de-risk commercial design.
- Demonstrate ability to mix design from first principles with designing large equipment under uncertainty.
- Determine physical phenomena that need to be considered and to what accuracy.
- Have a good sense of relative orders of magnitude around key design requirements.
- Progress design despite uncertainty with clear logical reasoning.
- Proactively identify key challenges and frame analysis tests necessary to solve problems.
- Maintain curiosity and ask questions to understand the system inside out.
- Possess strong theoretical knowledge of heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, and solid mechanics.
- Have working knowledge of mechanical separation equipment, solids handling conveyance systems, fluid control systems, tanks, pumps, and valves.
- Demonstrate skills in past projects with a high degree of independence.
- Ability to distill complex designs for effective communication between team members and teams.
- Ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
