The Senior Instrumentation and Controls Design Engineer at Redwood Materials is responsible for designing and developing instrumentation and control systems for sustainable battery manufacturing projects, including creating technical drawings, specifications, and supporting procurement and construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
Perform instrumentation and controls design assignments independently and collaboratively.
Assist in developing project solutions across all phases.
Create construction drawings for instrumentation and controls using Revit, including plan drawings, conduit and cable tray layouts, circuit schedules, wiring details, and installation details.
Develop and maintain instrumentation installation specifications.
Collaborate with electrical engineers to size cable tray systems and ensure compatibility of control devices.
Support controls engineering team in selecting appropriate instrumentation equipment and components.
Create and maintain documentation such as instrument datasheets, specifications, IO lists, valve lists, and instrument lists.
Assist in procurement activities by providing technical expertise and working with vendors.
Develop process improvement workflows to enhance design productivity.
Participate in construction observation to ensure quality and adherence to design specifications.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in I C Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum of 4 years of experience in instrumentation and controls design or related field
Highly motivated and proactive attitude
Well-organized and detail-oriented approach
Excellent team communication skills
Advanced proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
Working knowledge of UL508A standard for the design and construction of industrial control panels
Working knowledge of NEC Article 409 Industrial Control Panels
Ability to perform I C assignments with general direction and minimal supervision
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with others toward design and technical solutions
Assist in developing solutions for projects in all phases
Assist in the production of construction drawings for Instrumentation and Controls discipline, including plan drawings showing locations of instruments and control panels, Raceway drawings with conduit and cable tray sizing and routing including fill calculations, Circuit Schedules for low voltage control signal, power, and network wiring, instrument wiring details, instrument schedules, and instrument installation details, using Revit
Develop and maintain instrumentation installation specifications
Collaborate with electrical engineers to size new or share existing cable tray systems for I C systems
Support controls engineering team in specification and selection of appropriate I C devices, ensuring compatibility with process and environmental requirements
Collaborate with process I C engineers to create and maintain accurate documentation of instrument datasheets, specifications, technical reports, I O lists, valve lists, and instrument lists
Assist in procurement activities by providing technical expertise in selecting instrumentation equipment and components and working with vendors to procure components
