Job Description

A Senior Design Manager responsible for leading the full design and engineering efforts for infrastructure development and construction projects at Redwood Materials, focusing on rapid, large-scale facility and utility installations to support manufacturing and recycling operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the full design and engineering efforts for construction and infrastructure development from concept to production.
  • Manage and lead infrastructure and tool install projects through all phases including conceptualization, feasibility, design, change management, and construction services.
  • Coordinate permitting, construction documents, and manage project scope, schedule, and resources.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into clear project objectives and manage project scope effectively.
  • Develop and implement strategies for project delivery methods, including design-bid-build and fast-track projects.
  • Support feasibility studies, value engineering, and options analysis to optimize project outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with cross-functional teams to ensure program alignment and successful project execution.
  • Manage project funding requests and coordinate schedule requirements with procurement and construction partners.
  • Apply lean construction principles and innovative engineering methodologies to meet aggressive schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with codes and build strong relationships with external partners and jurisdictions.

Requirements

  • A B.S. degree in Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering; a M.S. degree is preferred.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) or RA (Registered Architect) License is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing multi-disciplinary scopes within Architecture, Engineering, or Design Engineering firms.
  • Experience designing manufacturing facilities and site infrastructure, including tool installation, building utilities, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills with the ability to understand complex problems and distill the message into a clear plan for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience managing engineering resources across all disciplines involved in infrastructure and tool install projects.
  • Experience working with codes and jurisdictions and the ability to build strong relationships with external partners.
  • Advanced project management skills with demonstrated application of project and program management fundamentals to complex engineering problems.
  • Ability to effectively execute multiple projects and tasks in parallel.
  • Experience managing and leading infrastructure and tool install projects through conceptualization, feasibility, funding, design (30-60-90 IFC), change management, and engineering services during construction.
  • Experience managing permitting and construction documents, including transmittals and RFIs.
  • Ability to manage project scope effectively in a highly dynamic environment, including distilling, documenting, and managing scope.
  • Ability to coordinate project schedule requirements with procurement and construction partners to ensure overall schedule success.
  • Ability to identify resource requirements, highlight gaps and constraints across project stages, and influence teams outside of direct reporting structures.
  • Understanding of lean construction principles and fully integrated design using Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Experience supporting or leading feasibility studies, value engineering efforts, and options analysis.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams to ensure program alignment.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of thriving under pressure and in ambiguous environments.

  • This is a full-time position located at the factory in TRIC Tahoe Reno Industrial Centre, Reno, Nevada.
