Job Description
A senior chemical engineer at Redwood Materials supports and improves processes related to battery recycling and hydrometallurgy, working on process development, plant design, commissioning, and operational support to promote sustainable energy storage solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure process safety, efficiency, and sustainability through collaboration with operations and maintenance teams
- Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to develop and implement new process plants and equipment
- Design, test, and operate flowsheets and pilot plants for hydrometallurgy refining processes
- Support process plant design, implementation, commissioning, and ramp-up activities
- Conduct process modeling, trade-off evaluations, and financial assessments for process improvements
Requirements
- A B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline
- 5 - 7 years experience in Chemical Plant Operations and or Design and Commissioning
- Experience in large scale industrial processing
- Operational support and track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical process problems and making plant improvements
- Testwork and pilot plant design and operating experience
- Process modelling experience with HSCSIM, SysCAD, METSIM and equipment sizing linking testwork and pilot plant operation to real project implementation
- Experience in process plant design and commissioning
- Track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical processing problems, with metallurgical processing experience in mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, and electrometallurgy being desired but not essential
- Self-motivated with a hands-on approach who takes the initiative
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed
- Must be able to communicate clearly
- Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time
- Must maintain regular and punctual attendance in alignment with company and regulatory standards
- Willingness to work in a split environment between office and production facility, including extended periods in the production environment and occasional work on weekends or alternate shifts to support production needs
