Job Description
A senior chemical engineer at Redwood Materials supports and improves chemical and metallurgical processes related to battery recycling, focusing on process development, plant design, commissioning, and operational support to promote sustainability and energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure processes are safe, efficient, sustainable, and continuously improving in collaboration with operations and maintenance teams
- Develop and implement new process plants and equipment
- Design and operate testwork and pilot plants for process development
- Conceptualize and develop flowsheets, including trade-off evaluations and studies
- Design, implement, install, and commission process plants
- Support plant ramp-up and operational optimization
Requirements
- A B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline
- 5 - 7 years experience in Chemical Plant Operations and or Design and Commissioning
- Large scale industrial processing experience
- Operational support and track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical process problems and making plant improvements
- Testwork and pilot plant design and operating experience
- Process modelling experience with HSCSIM, SysCAD, METSIM and equipment sizing linking testwork and pilot plant operation to real project implementation
- Experience with process trade-off studies and financial evaluation
- Process plant design and commissioning experience
- Track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical processing problems, including in mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, and electrometallurgy (desired but not essential)
- Self-motivated with a hands-on approach who takes the initiative
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Physical ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance in alignment with company and regulatory standards
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Willingness to work in challenging conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes while protected by PPE
- Availability to work in a split environment between office and production facility, including occasional weekends or alternate shifts to support production needs
