Job Description

The Senior BESS Design Manager will lead the engineering, design, and construction efforts for grid-scale energy storage infrastructure projects, managing cross-disciplinary teams to ensure successful deployment from concept to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead infrastructure and tool installation projects from conceptualization through construction.
  • Coordinate project schedules, funding, and resource requirements with procurement and construction teams.
  • Oversee permitting processes and manage construction documentation and transmittals.
  • Ensure effective communication with internal stakeholders and external parties throughout project deployment.
  • Support feasibility studies, value engineering, and options analysis for energy storage systems.
  • Build and maintain relationships with cross-functional teams to ensure project alignment.
  • Apply lean construction principles and utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) for integrated design.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of grid-scale energy storage technologies and balance-of-plant equipment such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, HVAC, and fire suppression systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical system design, interconnection requirements, and utility-scale project execution.
  • Knowledge of battery systems, electrical protection, power conversion, medium and high voltage systems, communication systems, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and codes including UL 9540, UL 1973, UL 1741, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, and IEC.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering, or demonstrate exceptional ability in the electrical engineering field through equivalent experience.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) or RA (Registered Architect) License is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in engineering, construction, manufacturing, or project management.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary scopes within A/E (Architect/Engineer) or Design Engineering firms.
  • Experience with commercial or industrial electrical installations and electricity distribution systems.
  • Experience managing project schedules, funding, and resource requirements for infrastructure and tool install projects from conceptualization through construction.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute many tasks in parallel with excellent attention to detail and quality decision-making.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with internal stakeholders and external parties, including managing permitting and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of local codes and regulations relevant to electrical and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting, leading feasibility studies, value engineering efforts, and options analysis.
  • Thrives under pressure and in ambiguous environments.
  • This is a full-time position.
