Job Description
A Chemical Engineer at Redwood Materials supports and improves recycling plant operations through process development, optimization, and commissioning, contributing to sustainable battery material production and the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure processes are safe, efficient, sustainable, and continuously improving in collaboration with operations and maintenance teams
- Lead and participate in developing and implementing new process plants and equipment
- Design and operate testwork and pilot plants for process development
- Develop flowsheets and evaluate trade-offs for process optimization
- Assist with process plant implementation, installation, commissioning, and ramp-up
Requirements
- A B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline.
- 5 - 7 years experience in Chemical Plant Operations and or Design and Commissioning.
- Large scale industrial processing experience.
- Operational support and track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical process problems and making plant improvements.
- Testwork and pilot plant design and operating experience.
- Process modelling experience with HSCSIM, SysCAD, METSIM, and equipment sizing linking testwork and pilot plant operation to real project implementation.
- Experience in conducting trade-off studies and financial evaluation related to process plant design.
- Experience in process plant design and commissioning.
- Self-Motivated with a hands-on approach who takes the initiative.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed.
- Must maintain regular and punctual attendance in alignment with company and regulatory standards.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Willingness to work in a split environment between office and production facility, including extended periods in challenging conditions with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes while protected by PPE.
- Availability to work in occasional weekends or alternate shifts to support production needs.
- This is a full-time position.
