The Release Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of software releases across multiple applications and environments, ensuring timely, reliable, and compliant deployment while collaborating with cross-functional teams and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and manage software release activities across multiple applications and environments.
Maintain and oversee release calendars, ensuring alignment with business priorities and technical readiness.
Ensure releases meet quality, compliance, and governance standards, including documentation and rollback procedures.
Oversee deployment execution, identify and manage risks, dependencies, and issues during releases.
Communicate release scope, schedule, and status to stakeholders and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
Develop and track metrics to measure release success and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
A minimum of 8 years of experience in release management, build release engineering, or DevOps coordination in complex IT or high-tech product environments.
Strong understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC), agile methods, and ITIL release management principles.
Experience managing release processes across multiple business applications such as CRM, ERP, HCM, etc.
Proven experience coordinating cross-functional teams and developing governance structures for release management.
Solid technical understanding of work planning tools such as JIRA, CI/CD pipelines, source control systems like Git, and deployment automation tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub CI/CD.
Ability to establish and maintain release calendars, collate release scope, dependencies, and schedules across multiple applications, teams, and environments.
Experience ensuring all releases meet defined entry and exit criteria, change control policies, and compliance requirements.
Ability to define, refine, and maintain release management standards, templates, and best practices, including release documentation such as release notes, deployment plans, and rollback procedures.
Experience overseeing environment management governance, promotion criteria, and environment refresh and deployment runbooks.
Capability to identify, communicate, and manage release-related dependencies, risks, and issues, and develop mitigation and rollback plans.
Experience serving as the primary escalation point during release execution to ensure timely resolution of blocking issues.
Strong communication skills to provide clear, consistent updates on release scope, schedule, and status to stakeholders including PMO, OCM, development teams, and business stakeholders.
Ability to collaborate with program and PI planning teams to align release schedules with business priorities and key events such as blackout periods.
Experience establishing and tracking release-related metrics such as success rates, deployment frequency, refresh cycle time, and change failure rates, and producing dashboards and reports.
Experience partnering with SRE, DevOps, and development teams to automate and streamline release processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Calm and decisive under pressure, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Process-driven but adaptable to agile and fast-moving delivery models.
Excellent organizational and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent releases under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes (preferred).
Familiarity with observability platforms such as Datadog and Splunk (preferred).
Working knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and practices such as PI Planning (preferred).
Experience working in regulated or large enterprise environments (preferred).
Experience working with ServiceNow for change management, CMDB, and related functions (preferred).
