The role involves leading and mentoring a remote engineering team focused on integrating Planet's satellite imagery and data services for defense intelligence customers, ensuring successful product delivery, collaboration, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Guide and mentor a team of software engineers and data scientists to deliver products for the Global Monitoring Service
Ensure efficient shipping of product improvements and features
Partner with product management to define strategy and make tactical decisions
Refine and implement team processes including task planning, code reviews, and on-call rotations
Establish engineering practices for building software and designing training inference pipelines
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on model maintenance, deployment pipelines, and infrastructure needs
Requirements
Six (6) years of related experience in software engineering, data science, or a relevant field.
Four (4) years of experience as a manager, with the ability to build, retain, and grow diverse, geographically dispersed teams.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience in delivering data-intensive software products at scale.
Solid understanding of fundamentals in software engineering, statistics, and machine learning.
Success in establishing and evolving operational practices in a software engineering organization.
Experience with change management, managing technical debt, and analyzing tradeoffs in solution builds.
Experience with distributed cloud computing.

Salary range based on location and experience (e.g., $172,200 - $215,200 in NYC, $182,900 - $228,600 in San Francisco, $160,600 - $200,800 US national)
