Job Description
This role involves designing, developing, and testing electrical systems and components for Planet's satellites, from schematic capture to manufacturing, with a focus on high-speed signal integrity and embedded systems, to support the deployment of space-based imaging satellites.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize electrical compute, data handling, and embedded systems for satellites and ground support equipment
- Architect, design, and build PCBAs including schematic capture, simulations, and guiding PCB layout
- Conduct environmental and functional testing on electrical subsystems for space readiness
- Lead the electrical design of high-speed subsystems from requirements to implementation
- Perform power supply design, power integrity analysis, and ensure system requirements are met
- Support manufacturing and qualification testing of electrical components and systems
- Debug, validate, and support integration of electrical designs
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar field
- At least 6 years of experience in taking electrical designs from schematics to manufacturing
- Advanced knowledge of electrical design for high speed signal integrity, high speed layout techniques, and SI simulations
- Experience with FPGA SOC based designs
- Expertise with lab equipment including high speed oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters
- Solder rework skills
- Experience with embedded systems and peripheral interfaces such as I2C, SPI, USB, CAN, PCIe
- Ability to lead the electrical design of compute and high-speed subsystems from requirements definition through architecture and detailed implementation
- Ability to guide PCB layout design, schematic capture, and perform signal and power integrity simulations
- Ability to identify, debug, and validate electrical designs
- Ability to provide support for integration testing
- Experience with power supply design and power integrity analysis to ensure designs meet system requirements
- Ability to support manufacturing and qualification test development
- Access to export-controlled information without requiring additional export licensing, as this position requires compliance with EAR ITAR requirements
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $162,600 - $203,200 USD (US base salary for San Francisco)
Work schedule: Hybrid role requiring work from San Francisco office 3 days per week
