Job Description

The Engineering Program Manager at Planet is responsible for leading satellite development and manufacturing programs, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing technical plans and schedules, and driving problem-solving efforts to ensure successful project execution from design to launch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead satellite development programs from planning through launch, including defining requirements and executing all program phases.
  • Develop and manage project schedules and budgets, tracking performance across all phases.
  • Oversee execution of technical plans internally and with external suppliers, managing deliverables and milestones.
  • Coordinate schedules, priorities, and status updates across engineering, manufacturing, stakeholders, and management.
  • Drive productivity and progress on concurrent projects by working with engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Develop tools and processes to measure and improve engineering productivity.
  • Identify and eliminate blocking issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions in engineering and manufacturing.
  • Manage manufacturing ramp-up from early factory engagement through production, ensuring readiness and progress.

Requirements

  • A BA or BS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Six (6) years of relevant experience in program management within aerospace, manufacturing, or a similar industry.
  • Experience in an engineering program management role for the development and ramp of hardware systems in a cross-functional context.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and enthusiastic with creative and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Experience working with and managing external contract manufacturers (CMs), suppliers, and vendors to drive program success.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to present complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to travel internationally, specifically to Europe.
  • This position requires access to export-controlled information, and employment or hiring of a contractor is contingent upon the candidate’s ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.
