Job Description

The Standards Engineer II is a technical expert responsible for ensuring Phoenix Contact's products meet all relevant standards and regulatory requirements, supporting product compliance, certification processes, and collaboration across teams to facilitate market readiness and regulatory adherence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Determine North American compliance requirements for new products and provide detailed specifications.
  • Manage and coordinate approvals projects related to product development and sustaining engineering.
  • Develop and establish North American certification standards and build relationships with approval agencies.
  • Communicate regulatory compliance requirements effectively to development teams.
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external approvals audits and maintain approval documentation.
  • Support and facilitate product approvals processes, including audits and technical file management.
  • Review certificates and test reports from external laboratories for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct regulatory reviews for local product development projects.
  • Provide application-based support to technical service teams regarding compliance concerns.
  • Monitor regulatory compliance changes, obsolescence, and communicate impacts to stakeholders.
  • Lobby for updates or clarifications to standards where ambiguity exists.
  • Assist in reducing approval project costs and accelerate approval timelines through improved project execution.
  • Support approval-related production audits by coordinating information and activities.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3-5 Years demonstrated experience with Product Safety Standards
  • Experience working with testing agencies, specifically UL, CSA
  • Experience with Industry Standards NEMA, SAE, TIA, ODVA preferred
  • Understand the basics of CE EMC and LVD
  • Knowledge of ATEX, IECEx a plus
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must be able to travel by air
  • Occasional overseas travel for extended periods required
  • Occasional Domestic Travel required
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
