Job Description
An intermediate-level mechanical designer responsible for developing and supporting mechanical systems and components using CAD tools, collaborating across departments, and contributing to product development, process improvements, and technical documentation within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems and components using CAD tools
- Provide CAD and technical support for existing product designs and variants
- Contribute to cross-functional projects, including new product development
- Identify and integrate second-source or replacement mechanical components
- Update and maintain technical data in ERP and PLM systems
- Perform root cause analyses and generate technical reports
- Interface with customers to gather and fulfill product requirements
- Coordinate with vendors, Strategic Purchasing, and Production for pricing and lead-time information
- Assist in interpreting QA inspection data and respond to manufacturing inquiries
- Support manufacturing in developing new processes and techniques
- Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs using Autodesk Inventor
- Participate in design reviews and support compliance with industry standards
- Contribute to process improvements and design optimization
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
- 2 to 5 years of relevant experience preferred, including mechanical design experience
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and ERP systems
- Strong understanding of DFMA principles and design optimization
- Knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical integration
- Demonstrated ability to skillfully work with 3D solid modeling and 2D drawing creation
- Knowledge of BOM management and ERP integration
- Experience in performing mechanical calculations and FEA analysis
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and industry standards
- Experience in Design and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
- Demonstrated electrical knowledge
- Must be able to travel by air and occasionally overseas for extended periods
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs
