Job Description
The Test Engineer, Electromechanical Integration, is responsible for designing, building, and commissioning control systems and mechanical hardware for large-scale test facilities, ensuring safe, reliable, and standards-compliant operation through hands-on assembly, troubleshooting, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and commission control systems and mechanical hardware for large-scale test facilities
- Create electrical schematics, process and instrumentation diagrams, and panel layouts
- Fabricate electrical control panels, enclosures, wiring harnesses, and mechanical hardware using CAD tools
- Program and commission PLCs, configure VFDs, and develop HMI systems for test equipment control
- Perform electrical troubleshooting, system integration debugging, and hardware issue resolution
- Execute mechanical fabrication tasks including machining, assembly, and integration of electromechanical systems
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field or equivalent experience
- 6 years of experience with industrial controls and electromechanical systems
- Proficiency in PLC programming
- Proficiency with parametric 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or similar, with NX preferred
- Experience designing electrical control panels and creating electrical schematics
- Ability to create mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and P IDs
- Hands-on experience with tools and techniques used in the electronics industry, including soldering irons, crimpers, multimeters, and related tools
- Skilled in the use of hand tools and measuring tools for fabrication and assembly
- Understanding of NEC, UL508A, and NFPA79 compliance standards
- Ability to design and fabricate electrical control panels, enclosures, and wiring harnesses for test systems
- Ability to select components, cables, and connectors
- Ability to create electrical schematics, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, interconnect drawings, and panel layouts
- Ability to document designs, build processes, and test procedures for production and repeatability
- Ability to program and commission PLCs, configure VFDs, and design Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems for test equipment control
- Ability to design mechanical hardware, assemblies, and fixtures using 3D CAD software, create fabrication drawings, and provide DFM/DFA feedback
- Perform electrical troubleshooting, system integration debugging, and resolve hardware issues
- Execute basic mechanical fabrication tasks including machining, assembly, and integration of electromechanical systems
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols, including working in elevated work areas, confined spaces, and lifting objects weighing 30 pounds or more
- Ability to work safely in confined spaces when required
- Ability to support occasional deployment or field assignments, including periodic travel or on-site work as needed
