The role involves developing and maintaining structural simulation tools and automation pipelines for a renewable ocean energy company, focusing on analyzing and validating structural designs in challenging marine environments using high-performance computing and advanced modeling techniques.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and optimize the Julia-based reduced-order structural analysis tool.
Develop and automate pipelines connecting reduced-order models with high-fidelity FEA simulations.
Collaborate with teams to define and analyze critical load environments such as wave slamming and crane lifts.
Own the mass estimation process for device design iterations.
Validate simulation results through hand calculations and FEA in Nastran.
Manage large-scale simulation data and cloud compute workloads using Docker, GCP, and PostgreSQL.
Lead structural simulation efforts for primary structures, ensuring design understanding and validation.
Requirements
An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or equivalent experience and expertise.
At least 3 years of experience in a role involving both structural analysis and software tooling development.
Proven experience writing clean, maintainable code in Julia and Python.
Deep fundamental understanding of structures, preferably large-scale steel structures.
Familiarity with marine-specific load environments including hydrodynamics, mooring, or offshore structures.
Experience with Git, Docker, and cloud computing environments such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
Working knowledge of Nastran or similar solvers for validating structural models.
Ability to use AI for code generation and efficiency while maintaining the technical intuition to spot errors in the output.
Intermittently able to work longer hours and weekends to support critical needs.
Willingness or ability to relocate to Portland, Oregon, or at minimum, the ability to travel to Portland intermittently.
