Job Description
The Lead Structures Engineer will provide technical leadership in the mechanical design and development of ocean energy devices called Nodes, focusing on structural integrity, team management, and collaboration with manufacturing to ensure robust, cost-effective solutions for harsh marine environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and ensure the structural integrity of the Node hull and primary/secondary structures.
- Lead and manage the engineering team responsible for the Node's structural design.
- Conduct and participate in design reviews with internal teams and external vendors.
- Mentor and guide engineers and designers to maintain technical excellence.
- Oversee project documentation and create detailed engineering releases with drawings and GD&T.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and operations teams to develop cost-effective and high-performance Node designs.
- Maintain expert-level proficiency in CAD software for engineering definition and release.
Requirements
- A degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering, or another related engineering discipline.
- Extensive experience designing components, structures, and assemblies from a variety of materials.
- 10 years of 3D CAD modeling experience.
- 5 years experience with large scale, safety critical welded steel structures.
- Strong fundamental skills with hand calculations and experience with structural FEA.
- Demonstrated experience building teams, leading, and mentoring other engineers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to provide guidance to and receive guidance from engineers, designers, technicians, and suppliers.
- A work history that includes at least five design, build, test, deploy, release, and produce cycles for complex systems or vehicles.
