The Civil Engineering Intern assists in designing and developing site civil features for utility-scale solar energy facilities, collaborating with engineering teams to ensure designs meet regulatory requirements and optimize project efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in designing civil engineering features for solar energy facilities, including grading, access roads, and support structures
Collaborate with electrical engineering team to optimize array layouts considering site challenges
Format drawing plansets and maintain AutoCAD templates, including completing redlines based on reviews
Review and interpret geotechnical and wetland delineation reports
Produce cut-fill plans and quantities using AutoCAD Civil 3D to meet slope and foundation requirements
Develop stormwater management and erosion control plans, including SWPPP
Research jurisdictional requirements related to DOT, utility, stormwater, and erosion control regulations
Read and interpret project documentation to ensure compliance with permits and site requirements
Requirements
Enrolled in a BS Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET accredited university
Exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred
Exposure to HydroCAD preferred
Experience with HEC-RAS or Flo2D modeling preferred but not required
Experience with Google Earth or other mapping GIS tools, as well as the use of online and public resources such as federal state county databases
Technology savvy with advanced computer skills, including experience using some form of Computer Aided Drafting or GIS
Hands-on experience in construction or land development
Strong attention to detail with a high level of integrity and organizational capacity to manage time and prioritize
Self-motivated with proven ability to take ownership, initiative, and accountability
Ability to contribute to a team working environment
Keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills
Ability to travel and access sites of varying locations, with the potential for frequent travel
Must have a roll up your sleeves and let’s get the job done right attitude
