Job Description
The Solar Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing utility-scale solar PV and energy storage systems, ensuring efficient site operations through preventive and corrective maintenance while adhering to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC solar and energy storage systems
- Monitor plant operations via SCADA and support commissioning, testing, and system modifications
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and support maintenance activities
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities using CMMS software
- Develop and implement Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and electrical work plans
- Read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols
- Support installation tasks including torquing, calibration, and use of specialized tools
- Lead advanced troubleshooting across multiple OEM platforms and system diagnostics
- Communicate site conditions, needs, and technical findings to stakeholders
- Train and mentor junior technicians and foster safety standards
Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in large-scale solar operations and maintenance (O M) experience, with the specific requirement of 4 years of direct or related experience in the solar industry for advanced positions
- Competency in industrial or utility power operations, troubleshooting, and general maintenance procedures
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, operating SCADA systems, and using CMMS for maintenance tracking
- Strong computer skills, particularly in SCADA and CMMS applications
- Ability to perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC systems, including inverters, PV modules, transformers, switchgear, and high-voltage components
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and support maintenance activities
- Ability to develop and interpret complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols
- Ability to read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols
- Ability to verify tooling and parts against work plans, relay necessary adjustments, and generate reports on findings and recommendations
- Ability to develop and implement Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and electrical work plans
- Ability to execute installation tasks with proficiency in torquing, calibration, and the use of specialized tools
- Ability to lead advanced troubleshooting across multiple OEM platforms, including controls interface and system diagnostics
- Ability to train and mentor junior technicians, fostering safety standards and adherence to industry practices
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing requests
- Physical and mental fitness to stand, walk (including covering 2 miles in a day), climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods in varying weather conditions
- Physical ability to lift and carry tools or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds
- Visual acuity sufficient for reading schematics and working with tools and meters, with or without corrective lenses
- Ability to handle precise tasks requiring fine motor skills and strong hand-eye coordination
- Willingness to work outside of normal business hours as necessary and participate in on-call rotation schedule
- Compliance with company policies on drug-free and alcohol-free workplace
- Knowledge of safety procedures including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO)
- Ability to develop and support safety protocols and procedures
- Regional travel may occasionally be required to support various site demands
