Job Description
A Technical Lead Manager role focused on developing and managing large-scale ML infrastructure, including workload orchestration, data processing, and feature management, to support autonomous vehicle research and development at Nuro.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the evolution and strategy of the core ML infrastructure platform, including resource provisioning, workload orchestration, and feature management.
- Design and optimize scalable workload scheduling to maximize hardware utilization and reduce job wait times.
- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines for extracting, transforming, and loading petabyte-scale sensor and telemetry data.
- Implement and manage feature caching and storage solutions to enable low-latency access to features and reduce redundant computations.
- Mentor and lead a team of engineers, fostering operational excellence and technical innovation.
- Partner with research and engineering teams to eliminate infrastructure bottlenecks and accelerate model development lifecycle.
Requirements
- 6 years of professional experience in ML Infrastructure, Backend Platform Engineering, or Distributed Systems
- At least 3 years of people team management experience
- Deep familiarity with modern Infrastructure-as-Code and provisioning tools e.g., Terraform, Pulumi, or Crossplane
- Hands-on experience building or managing large-scale orchestrators for compute-heavy workloads e.g., Kubernetes KubeRay, Ray, Slurm, or Volcano
- Proven expertise in large-scale data extraction and transformation, with proficiency in at least one distributed processing framework such as Apache Spark or Apache Beam
- Experience implementing or maintaining feature stores and caching layers e.g., Feast, Hopsworks, or Redis-based custom caching
