Job Description
A Software Reliability Engineer at Nuro is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining resilient systems that support autonomous vehicle fleet operations, focusing on automation, observability, and continuous improvement to ensure fleet reliability and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate systems supporting autonomous vehicle platform and fleet operations
- Build fleet-scale pipelines to convert onboard signals into actionable investigations
- Develop automated triage and correlation systems for issue management
- Partner with engineering teams to improve instrumentation, automation, and signal quality
- Build internal tools and workflows to enhance debugging, metrics, and access control
- Lead reliability investigations to identify causes and implement engineering improvements
Requirements
- Experience writing and shipping software that runs in production, with an ownership mindset and attention to how it behaves in real-world conditions.
- Ability to build and maintain tools and automation that enable other engineers, including internal tools, instrumentation, and visualizations.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, Bash, and C.
- Strong debugging fundamentals across the stack, including using system signals and live troubleshooting to form hypotheses and identify contributing factors.
- Experience in reliability engineering or a related field, motivated by making complex systems understandable, resilient, and easier to run as they scale.
- Experience building fleet-scale pipelines that turn onboard signals into actionable investigations.
- Experience developing automated triage and correlation systems that deduplicate issues, route them to the right teams, and attach diagnostic context.
- Ability to partner with engineering teams and subject matter experts to improve instrumentation, automation, and signal quality over time.
- Experience leading reliability investigations to identify contributing factors and ensuring learnings lead to durable engineering changes.
