Job Description
A Senior Software Engineer in Collision Avoidance Testing at Nuro is responsible for evaluating and improving autonomous vehicle safety through designing and analyzing collision avoidance scenarios in simulation and real-world testing, ensuring the vehicle's performance meets safety standards and standards compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate autonomous vehicle performance in collision avoidance scenarios through testing and simulation.
- Identify gaps in testing coverage and design scenarios to address these gaps using real-world logs and synthetic simulations.
- Analyze test results, recommend product improvements, and report residual risks to support safety and development goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, or Doctoral Degree in Computer Science, Math, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or related field.
- Strong algorithmic problem solving skills and coding experience preferably in Python or C to implement scalable solutions.
- Experience with both simulation and physical testing of autonomous vehicles using well-defined metrics to score good behavior.
- Experience developing collision-type metrics, evaluation tooling, or CICD test pipelines to quantify robot performance in test environments.
- Highly collaborative in nature with strong abilities to think and communicate analytically and effectively, both verbal and written.
- Self-starter and fast learner with a passion for picking up new skills and approaching unstructured problems from first principles.
- Ability to prioritize and manage workload to meet critical project deadlines.
- At least 5 years of technical work experience in a relevant area, of which 3 years should be in robotics software.
- Working knowledge of and ability to apply systems engineering concepts of requirements, verification, and validation.
