Job Description
This role involves optimizing cloud infrastructure and data systems to improve efficiency, performance, and cost management across Nuro's autonomous vehicle technology platform, collaborating with engineering teams to implement scalable and cost-effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and optimize cloud infrastructure for efficiency across storage, compute, data, and ML systems.
- Design and implement cost-aware systems, ensuring efficiency by default through architecture and review processes.
- Profile, tune, and improve large-scale workloads to enhance performance and reduce costs.
- Develop and maintain real-time cost observability, anomaly detection, and attribution systems.
- Automate lifecycle management and resource tiering to eliminate systemic waste.
- Collaborate across teams to implement cross-organizational optimizations and cost-saving initiatives.
- Establish and enforce cost governance processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and incident response.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering fundamentals in Python or Go, with experience building and operating production systems end-to-end.
- Experience with public cloud platforms GCP preferred including billing, IAM, and resource management.
- Experience with data warehouses BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar, including query optimization at scale.
- Proven track record of delivering measurable improvements in performance, efficiency, or cost on production systems.
- Strong system design skills, with the ability to evaluate and influence tradeoffs across cost, performance, reliability, and developer experience.
- Ability to operate in ambiguous, cross-team environments and drive initiatives from problem definition to execution.
- Excellent communication skills, including presenting tradeoffs to both engineers and executive stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
