Job Description
The Senior Project Manager, ML Operations at Nuro is responsible for overseeing data quality across multiple labeling pipelines, identifying systemic issues, and implementing improvements to ensure high-quality training data for autonomous driving models.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and maintain data quality standards across multiple labeling pipelines.
- Identify, analyze, and close quality gaps in data labeling processes.
- Audit workflows, investigate accuracy failures, and develop evidence-based improvement plans.
- Partner with operations teams to enhance labeling accuracy and reduce systematic errors.
- Design and implement scalable processes to improve data quality and support ML training needs.
- Connect labeling quality metrics to model performance and safety outcomes.
- Create executive reports highlighting quality gaps and progress.
- Drive cross-functional alignment by providing analysis and recommendations to engineering, product, and operations teams.
Requirements
- Five years of project or program management experience embedded with ML, data operations, or software engineering teams, with hands-on involvement in the work rather than managing from a distance.
- Experience in designing and implementing a system-level quality framework for data pipelines and personally investigating labeling anomalies using SQL or similar tools without relying solely on data engineers.
- Deep understanding of ML data pipelines and data labeling ecosystems, including annotation workflows, quality sampling methodologies, labeling taxonomy design, inter-annotator agreement, and the factors that drive or degrade training data accuracy.
- Proven ability to identify systemic workflow problems across multiple concurrent data labeling pipelines, propose targeted improvements, and drive adoption of these improvements across teams.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate nuanced data quality findings into precise business or safety risks that senior executives can act on.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
