Job Description
The Safety Governance Standards Lead at Nuro is responsible for developing and leading the company's safety strategy, standards, and management systems for autonomous vehicles, while managing a team of safety experts and representing the company on safety-related matters externally.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop Nuro's safety vision, policies, and KPIs.
- Manage and improve the company's safety management system and safety assurance framework.
- Advise executive leadership on risk, compliance, and safety strategy.
- Interface with regulatory bodies, industry consortia, and safety certification agencies.
- Foster a culture of safety, transparency, and continuous improvement across the company.
- Oversee safety case development and external safety communications.
- Implement safety strategy through cross-functional safety teams and review safety components.
- Establish training and safety education requirements for safety responsible engineers.
- Stay current on emerging safety issues and provide guidance on regulatory and industry standards.
- Represent Nuro in safety-related dialogues with legislators, regulators, industry bodies, and the media.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or safety-related discipline
- 10 years of experience in safety for complex, high-reliability domains
- Demonstrated leadership in managing multidisciplinary safety teams for safety-critical systems such as autonomous vehicles, aviation, medical devices, etc.
- Expertise in safety standards, Safety Management System (SMS) design, and safety argumentation
- Technical experience, preferably with hands-on work in software, hardware, and operations
- Ability to articulate Nuro’s safety strategy and story to regulators, industry bodies, and the general public

Compensation/salary range between $193,930 and $291,150 depending on experience and qualifications
