Job Description
An Operations Safety Engineer at Nuro supports the development and implementation of safety management systems and protocols to ensure the safe deployment and operation of autonomous vehicle technology, working cross-functionally to promote safety, monitor performance, and respond to incidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and improvement of Safety Management System (SMS) programs, including Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotion
- Coordinate and support the company's Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and cross-functional response efforts
- Assist in the safe deployment of new Operational Design Domains (ODD) by applying SMS activities and engaging stakeholders
- Identify and assess safety hazards to inform product requirements and operational decisions
- Develop and deliver safety training to the Operations team to promote safety culture
- Design and implement safety tools to automate and streamline SMS workflows
- Collaborate with Data Science to develop and analyze safety metrics for fleet performance monitoring
- Evaluate safety controls and provide recommendations to enhance operational safety
- Serve as part of the emergency response team to support incident management
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in transportation safety, safety engineering, autonomous safety, or related domains
- Experience in conducting safety risk assessment for operational or technical systems
- Experience leading cross-functional programs involving multiple disciplines
- Strong technical writing skills within safety or operational environments
- Willingness to support in an on-call emergency response rotation, including support outside of standard business hours

Compensation/salary range: $102,230 to $180,410 depending on location and experience
