Job Description

The Head of Operations at Nuro leads a large, geographically distributed team responsible for supporting the development, deployment, and expansion of autonomous driving technology, ensuring safe, efficient, and scalable real-world operations across multiple markets and environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the development and global rollout of Nuro's autonomous driving technology.
  • Execute real-world, mission-critical R&D activities to develop and deploy autonomy systems safely and cost-effectively.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to prepare for and launch commercial driverless operations.
  • Build and scale the operations organization across multiple geographies, vehicle platforms, and regulatory environments.
  • Define KPIs, set strategic direction, and ensure operational outcomes related to capacity, cost, quality, and safety.
  • Develop systems, processes, and training programs for a distributed workforce to operate safely and consistently.
  • Travel to operational sites to assess local conditions, identify opportunities, and stay connected with team challenges.
  • Partner with engineering, hardware, commercial, policy, and HR teams to align operational priorities with company goals.

Requirements

  • Ten years of experience in operations or management consulting, with at least five of those years in direct leadership roles managing managers and scaling large, geographically distributed teams.
  • Proven track record building and scaling field operations in complex, high-volume environments such as fleet, logistics, supply chain, or general management.
  • Experience running 24/7 shift operations across multiple sites, time zones, and workforce types, including blended FTE and contractor populations.
  • Deeply analytical skills, with the ability to make decisions based on operational data, pull insights from metrics, and communicate tradeoffs clearly to technical audiences.
  • Hands-on and site-present leadership style, understanding that effective operations leadership requires direct observation, not just dashboards.
  • Strong track record in building training, onboarding, and quality programs that produce consistent performance at scale.
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving, resource-constrained environments with ambiguity, and able to build structure as needed.
  • Prior profit and loss ownership with demonstrated accountability for cost, efficiency, and growth outcomes.

Compensation/salary range between $176,400 and $264,600 depending on experience and qualifications
