Job Description
The Mechanical Design Manager at Nuro leads the research, design, and development of autonomous hardware systems, overseeing cross-functional collaboration and managing a team to deliver innovative mechanical solutions for self-driving vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, design, and deliver autonomous hardware solutions including electronics packaging, sensor packaging, and vehicle integrations.
- Manage the full product lifecycle from prototype development to production ramp, ensuring high-quality mechanical modules and solutions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, software, planning, procurement, and production teams to meet performance and quality standards.
- Support and oversee manufacturing and industrialization processes for mechanical systems and modules.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a large engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, technical rigor, and career growth.
- Define and own mechanical design efforts across multiple product lines and R&D initiatives.
- Drive program milestones, resolve critical issues, and develop countermeasures to ensure timely project delivery.
Requirements
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
- Professional engineering experience of 8 years, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing teams.
- Demonstrated excellence in mechanical design and delivering complex mechanical products at low and high volumes.
- Experience with automotive or consumer electronics product cycles, including qualification, validation, and high-volume manufacturing.
- A strong communicator that can interact with working level engineers, internal leadership, and key external suppliers to advocate on behalf of mechanical design to produce the best possible product.
- Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and scale a world-class engineering organization.
- Self-starter with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and project management skills.
- Relentlessly resourceful, with a bias towards action.
