Job Description
The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for the site development, design, and technical support of solar energy projects, including permitting, land-use planning, construction oversight, and collaboration with various engineering teams to ensure successful project execution in the renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support throughout the entire project lifecycle, including development, engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance.
- Conduct site due diligence reviews to identify potential risks and optimize site layout considering topography, hydrology, and environmental constraints.
- Review and critique civil engineering site designs, including construction drawings, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control plans, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines such as electrical, structural, geotechnical, and solar design.
- Develop internal design standards and identify process improvements.
- Support training of engineering staff and research new products.
- Perform grading design and foundation tolerance analysis for tracker projects.
- Coordinate with construction project managers for project handoff and site inspections.
- Respond to RFIs and field issues, ensuring compliance with permits and construction documents.
- Manage relationships with third-party engineering consultants and oversee project RFPs, negotiations, and invoicing.
Requirements
- Seven (7) years of civil engineering and land development design experience.
- Experience in federal, state, and local permitting processes and construction administration.
- Proficiency with state Stormwater Management policies and guidelines.
- Experience in site grading and earthwork analyses.
- Strong written and oral technical communication skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Ability to perform stormwater design, grading, and sedimentation and erosion control measures.
- Experience conducting due diligence reviews of potential sites and project acquisitions to identify fatal flaws and mitigate design risks.
- Ability to review and critique all aspects of civil engineering site design, including construction drawings, stormwater management reports, erosion and sediment control plans, construction management plans, design details, and technical specifications.
- Experience cross-coordinating with other engineering groups such as solar design, electrical, grid interconnection, structural, and geotechnical engineering.
- Ability to develop internal design standards and identify process improvements.
- Experience supporting training of engineering department personnel and new product research and implementation.
- Experience in site development including land-use permitting and construction administration.
- Ability to coordinate with construction Project Managers to facilitate handoff from engineering to construction.
- Experience conducting site field visits and inspections, and responding to RFIs and urgent field issues.
- Ability to develop and manage relationships with third-party engineering consultants responsible for civil engineering, surveying, construction, and landscape architecture design products.
- Experience providing value engineering recommendations to drive cost reduction while maintaining standards for code compliance and industry best practices.
- Experience managing project Requests for Proposals with third-party consultants, negotiating prices and change orders, requisitioning Purchase Orders, and approving invoices.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
