Job Description

The position involves leading the commissioning, SCADA engineering, and control systems for Nexamp's renewable energy projects, managing a team of technical experts, and ensuring seamless integration, security, and operational performance of solar, battery storage, and microgrid systems across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute commissioning and SCADA strategies for renewable energy projects.
  • Manage commissioning, acceptance testing, and validation of project systems including electrical, control, and communication systems.
  • Oversee development and implementation of control designs, communication architecture, and system integrations across projects.
  • Lead the integration of BMS, EMS, DAS, SCADA, and energy trading platforms for PV, BESS, and microgrid systems.
  • Ensure cybersecurity measures and network security controls are properly implemented and maintained.
  • Develop, improve, and maintain technical processes, specifications, and training materials related to SCADA and control systems.
  • Manage and mentor engineering teams and external contractors to ensure project delivery and technical excellence.
  • Coordinate with utilities and stakeholders to ensure compliance with ISO and local utility requirements.
  • Lead innovation efforts for new product research, system control, and data acquisition initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for troubleshooting complex SCADA and control system issues.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience including commissioning of grid-tied electrical generation assets and design and commissioning of SCADA, building automation, or control systems
  • 4 years of engineering management experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in controls engineering for distributed generation (DG) and utility-scale renewable hybrid energy, photovoltaic (PV) systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), AC-coupled and DC-coupled systems, and microgrid systems
  • Experience interfacing with utilities and an in-depth knowledge of common utility ISO requirements for communication and control of grid-tied DG and utility-scale generation
  • Expertise in commissioning and resolving site technical issues, with proven success in independently troubleshooting challenging SCADA related technical issues
  • Experience with NERC CIP, SOC2, and ISA-62443 standards as well as experience securing cloud-based systems such as AWS, Azure, or private clouds
  • Knowledge and experience with technical communications protocols including Modbus TCP, DNP3.0, BACnet, and commonly used controls software hardware platforms and communication standards such as MESA and Sunspec
  • Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with relays, meters, SCADA Gateways, Data Concentrators, including programming of RTACs and similar devices
  • Experience with operational requirements and processes for PV and BESS systems and working knowledge of Network Operation Center (NOC) security and operational protocols
  • Experience with Aveva SCADA platform
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide technical guidance to personnel with varying levels of technical expertise
  • Ability to manage a multi-level team within a fast-paced work environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously, including managing engineering managers, individual contributors, contractors, resolving scheduling conflicts, and managing internal and external resources
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty
