Job Description

The Control Room Operator at Nexamp is responsible for the real-time monitoring and operation of solar, storage, and renewable energy assets in a 24/7 control room, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant energy production while leading and training a team of operators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate solar, storage, and utility-scale assets in real-time to ensure stable and efficient performance.
  • Identify and respond to alarms, anomalies, and performance issues to maintain safe and compliant operations.
  • Lead and train team members in remote troubleshooting, operational procedures, and emergency response.
  • Coordinate with external entities such as ISOs and field personnel for maintenance and response to disruptions.
  • Record system data, maintain logs, and generate reports to support operational analysis and compliance.

Requirements

  • A 2-year degree in Electrical Technology Engineering or equivalent experience is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a generation control room or high-tempo watch-standing environment such as military, maritime, or utility sectors.
  • Proficiency in SCADA systems, MS Office Suite, and digital monitoring platforms.
  • Basic understanding of the Bulk Electric System, renewable power generation, and high-voltage transmission.
  • Ability and availability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to cover open shifts as needed and travel for training or remote site work, including occasional overnight trips.
  • Willingness and ability to develop and complete an extensive in-house training program as well as NERC or ISO equivalent certification programs to pass certification exams and maintain qualifications.
  • Willingness to travel to remote sites for work or training activities, including overnight trips if required.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and contribute to internal and external reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond the organization.
  • Experience in showcasing initiative to improve current work, processes, products, and services across the organization.
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
  • Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty.

  • Attention to detail, pro-active troubleshooting skills, and a responsible, ownership mentality.
