Job Description
The position involves leading state-level campaigns in Michigan to transform industrial practices for climate justice, community benefit, and worker protection, by building coalitions, shaping policy strategies, and advancing sustainable industry initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape and drive state-level campaigns related to industry transformation, climate, justice, and jobs in Michigan.
- Build and maintain relationships with key allies, stakeholders, policymakers, and community groups.
- Develop and implement integrated campaign strategies based on policy and power analysis.
- Support existing efforts that promote jobs, justice, and climate goals within the industrial sector.
- Lead fundraising initiatives to expand the state program and team.
- Represent Industrious Labs in coalition spaces, media, and conversations with public officials and funders.
- Develop policy expertise in sectors like steel, cement, and industrial heat, as well as climate, labor, and air quality policies.
Requirements
- 10 to 15 years of experience with increasing responsibility leading teams and driving shared goals.
- Background in policy development, organizing, or leadership within advocacy or movement spaces.
- Experience designing policy campaigns and using tools like power mapping, strategy charts, or narrative development.
- Strong familiarity with how state and local agencies and venues function.
- A relationship-builder with ties to grassroots groups, labor, environmental justice communities, policymakers, and other key players in Michigan.
- Proven track record of delivering policy wins and moving ideas from strategy through implementation.
- Strong project management skills and the skills to juggle priorities.
- Experience managing staff and developing teams.
- Deep knowledge of the local landscape and strong existing relationships in Michigan.
- Ability to partner with campaign leads to identify high-impact policy and campaign opportunities.
- Ability to finalize stakeholder and power maps in collaboration with the Field Building team.
- Ability to build relationships with key allies and develop strategic alliances with stakeholders across the spectrum.
- Experience supporting existing state efforts that advance jobs, justice, and climate goals in the industrial sector.
- Ability to lead fundraising efforts to grow the state program and team.
- Ability to represent Industrious Labs in coalition spaces, with media, and in conversations with public officials and funders.
- Capability to develop policy expertise in key sectors such as steel, cement, industrial heat, climate, labor, and air quality policy.
- Strong communication skills able to break down complex issues into clear strategies and decisions.
- Demonstrated experience working across lines of race, class, gender, and geography.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and move between solo efforts and teamwork.
- Openness to giving and receiving compassionate, direct feedback.

- Salary expectation of $152,000, with no negotiation policy, and benefits including 100% employer-paid health coverage (medical, dental, vision), a work-from-home stipend, up to 5% 401k employer match, 11 paid holidays, and unlimited vacation with a minimum of 15 business days.
