Job Description

The Radar System Engineer will design, integrate, and test radar systems across a wide frequency range, working closely with scientists and engineers to develop system specifications, analyze radar data, and solve complex technical problems in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, integrate, and test radar systems from HF to 200 GHz.
  • Develop specifications and architectures for radar systems, including frontend and backend components.
  • Solve customer problems related to radar systems.
  • Publish research papers and brief customers on radar system capabilities.
  • Participate in proposal activities and support marketing efforts for HRL expertise.

Requirements

  • Must contribute technical expertise and work within a focused team that designs, integrates, and tests radar systems operating from HF to 200 GHz.
  • Must work closely with scientists and engineers to develop specifications and architectures for radar systems from the frontend components starting with the aperture to the backend components including the ADC, DSP, and processing flow behind it.
  • Must have experience with radars including operation, testing, and analyzing radar data.
  • Must be able to use MATLAB for developing radar waveforms and analyzing data collected by radar systems.
  • Must have a working knowledge of radar systems with an emphasis on FMCW radars, radar simulators, radar algorithms, and the analysis of radar data.
  • Must have a working familiarity with common passive and active microwave structures as well as antennas.
  • Must be able to program algorithms in C, MATLAB, or an equivalent programming language.
  • Must be able to interact professionally with program managers, co-workers, and customers, perform detailed analyses of radar systems and components, and prepare written and oral presentations.
  • Must be willing to work well in a team and independently.
  • Must be willing to travel and work in a team of highly skilled engineers on complex projects.
  • Must be willing to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Must have a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree with experience in Radar Systems Engineering.
  • Must be a US citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance.
