Job Description

The Quantum Optics Intern will perform research and experiments related to quantum photonic electronic devices, including designing, modeling, testing, and analyzing free-space and fiber optic experiments under the supervision of staff scientists, while gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform research and development on next-generation quantum photonic electronic devices under supervision.
  • Design, model, set up, and test free-space and fiber optic experiments.
  • Perform measurements, collect data, and analyze experimental results.
  • Present and discuss experimental data with scientific team members.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Prior experience working with any free-space fiber optics, electronics, and computer-controlled experiments obtained through coursework, independent study, or other internships.
  • Strong desire to learn and be trained in scientific laboratory techniques and experimental procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organization skills are required.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, engineering workstations, and complex electronic equipment.
  • Must be able to work safely in an optical testing laboratory.
  • Must have been enrolled in an educational program following the end of the intern assignment.
  • Must be a US Person (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident).

Benefits & Perks

Compensation range of $43 to $48 per hour, determined by educational year
80 hours of sick time
Assignment length of 8 to 12 weeks with multiple start dates
One-time stipend for relocation and housing in Malibu, CA
