Job Description
The Modeling Intern will support computational modeling research in materials science, focusing on developing and running simulations of gas-phase deposition and chemical reaction kinetics, while gaining hands-on experience in high-performance computing and contributing to innovative scientific solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop kinetic Monte Carlo models of gas phase deposition and run simulations to analyze surface properties.
- Model and analyze gas-phase and surface chemical reaction kinetics using ab initio simulation approaches.
- Set up and execute computational workflows on HPC clusters.
- Document simulation results and present findings to team members and customers.
- Provide process guidance based on modeling results to HRL customers.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field.
- Programming experience, especially with Python.
- Experience running simulations on a Linux high-performance computing cluster.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
