Job Description

The Modeling Intern will support computational modeling research in materials science, focusing on developing and running simulations of gas-phase deposition and chemical reaction kinetics, while gaining hands-on experience in high-performance computing and contributing to innovative scientific solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop kinetic Monte Carlo models of gas phase deposition and run simulations to analyze surface properties.
  • Model and analyze gas-phase and surface chemical reaction kinetics using ab initio simulation approaches.
  • Set up and execute computational workflows on HPC clusters.
  • Document simulation results and present findings to team members and customers.
  • Provide process guidance based on modeling results to HRL customers.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field.
  • Programming experience, especially with Python.
  • Experience running simulations on a Linux high-performance computing cluster.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
