Job Description
A Linux Systems Administrator responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting multi-platform systems (Linux and Windows) in classified environments, ensuring security compliance, performance optimization, and supporting security audits within a government or defense setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain multiplatform systems hardware, software, and components
- Administer and manage Windows and Linux systems in various environments
- Maintain Linux servers and workstations
- Perform system and user account management
- Monitor, evaluate, and optimize system performance
- Test, assess, and implement security patches and system hardening measures
- Develop and promote standard operating procedures and conduct hardware and software audits
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex system failures across hardware, software, and network components
Requirements
- An active Secret security clearance and experience in classified programs is required.
- Willingness to continue learning new technologies is a must.
- Experience in Linux systems administration.
- Understanding of multiplatform system hardening e.g., DISA STIG, SCAP.
- Experience integrating Linux systems into an Active Directory environment.
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, 9.
- Experience with Ubuntu Linux 20.04, 22.04.
- Experience with scripting for task automation e.g., shell scripting, Python, Perl.
- Experience with systems management and automation software e.g., Satellite, Foreman, Ansible.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals e.g., switching, routing, firewalls, load balancing.
- Experience with system monitoring alerting tools e.g., Nagios.
- Ability to work independently.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a related role is preferred.
- An active Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required.
- High School diploma or GED with 7 years of experience in a System Administration role or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
- Must obtain DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II or higher certification e.g., CompTIA Security , CySA , GICSP, GSEC, CISSP within 6 months of hire.
- Physical ability to occasionally stand, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- This position is 100% on-site.
- Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, and with little to no advance notice.
- Up to 10 travel is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain a Top Secret SCI clearance with polygraph.
