Job Description

The Environmental Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing environmental compliance programs, including reporting, permitting, and audits, to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements while supporting health and safety initiatives at HRL facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee on-site operations to ensure environmental compliance and guide research and operations personnel
  • Complete and submit reports for air emissions, industrial wastewater, and hazardous waste accurately and timely
  • Manage hazardous waste operations, including directing disposal contractors and reviewing hazardous waste manifests
  • Collect, organize, and maintain data and documents to demonstrate regulatory and permit compliance
  • Collaborate with departments to prepare environmental permit applications
  • Develop, revise, and administer internal environmental manuals and guidance documents
  • Update and maintain environmental plans and regulatory documents
  • Coordinate and participate in environmental inspections and audits
  • Develop and deliver environmental and safety training programs

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or above in an engineering, environmental, health safety, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental management and compliance in programs including air, water, and waste.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations including SCAQMD, VCAPCD, Los Angeles and Ventura County CUPA requirements.
  • Experience in SCAQMD and VCAPCD permitting and compliance.
  • Experience in emissions quantification and reporting.
  • Experience in VOC tracking and compliance.
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste characterization, management, and disposal practices and requirements.
  • Knowledge of wastewater management, monitoring, and discharge requirements.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and summarize regulatory text and determine applicable requirements.
  • Experience in developing and administering training on environmental, health, and safety topics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Physical ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, including some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • US Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.
