Job Description
The role involves designing and supporting battery energy storage systems (ESS) for various applications, providing pre-sales technical support, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring successful project implementation and customer satisfaction in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and conceptualize battery systems tailored for specific applications, optimizing performance, safety, and cycle life.
- Provide pre-sales technical support and develop documentation to ensure high-quality ESS system designs and customer understanding.
- Manage technical account engagements pre- and post-sales, including developing installation and operational plans for successful ESS adoption.
- Support utility-scale and commercial projects with customized design solutions to secure design wins and reduce customer costs.
- Collaborate with R&D and product teams to identify product issues and recommend improvements based on field feedback.
- Coordinate field testing and gather feedback on new hardware and software to inform product development.
- Work closely with customer support to address technical issues, ensuring high customer satisfaction and a closed-loop feedback system.
- Engage with customers and partners on ESS system applications, including system evaluation, teaming, and integration with balance of system components.
- Develop technical documentation such as specifications, manuals, safety certifications, and proposals for ESS products.
- Prioritize and manage technical support tasks within the sales pipeline to ensure timely and effective pre-sales support.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of battery systems.
- Participate in design reviews and meetings to exchange ideas, gather feedback, and provide technical expertise.
- Lead the development and promotion of technical tools and training for sales teams, partners, and distributors.
- Act as a technical liaison for customer feedback, product issues, and solutions, maintaining communication between sales, support, and product management.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Practical experience with distributed PV solar and energy storage system applications.
- 2-5 years of experience in ESS engineering design, technical pre-sales support, and project management.
- Strong knowledge of certification and regulatory codes for ESS installations and development.
- Ability to conceptualize and design battery systems based on project requirements, including selecting appropriate battery chemistries, cell configurations, and packaging designs to optimize performance, energy density, safety, and cycle life.
- Experience in systems design, module and pack design with a focus on design and application-oriented solutions for ESS applications.
- Experience in pre-sales technical support for customer account engagements, including developing documentation, best practices, and training to ensure high-quality design and minimal post-sales technical support issues.
- Experience in pre- and post-sales management of technical account engagements to develop and communicate comprehensive design, installation, and operational plans for successful ESS solution adoption.
- Ability to lead product management and development of broad-based market training and tools addressing best practices and requirements, such as standard and technical business tools.
- Experience coordinating field testing and feedback collection for new hardware and software.
- Ability to work closely with Customer Support to enable a closed-loop system on key technical and product-related issues and ensure high customer satisfaction, especially with top installer accounts.
- Experience engaging with customers on the application of ESS systems and collaborating with partners for balance of system equipment providers, software EMS integration, and EPC.
- Development of technical documentation including technical specifications, manuals, safety certifications, and technical diligence proposals.
- Ability to work closely with sales teams to determine account project prioritization relative to available technical resources and ensure coordination with customers.
- Experience managing tasks in the technical pipeline to ensure qualified projects receive appropriate pre-sales design and support.
- Coordination with China-based R&D, design, and pre-sales teams to ensure proactive participation in test requirements, procedures, and plans for ESS products.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers to ensure seamless integration of battery systems into larger products or systems.
- Participation in design reviews, meetings, and discussions to exchange ideas, provide technical expertise, and gather feedback.
- Leading and collaborating with Product Management on technical tools and training, and driving adoption through sales teams, partners, and distributors.
- Acting as a sales focal point for providing feedback to product management on major product and technical issues and recommending solutions.
- Managing a closed-loop process with product management, customer support, and sales on all field pre-sales related topics and issues.
- Willingness to travel internationally as required.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in German and/or Chinese is a plus.
