Job Description
A battery system design engineer responsible for conceptualizing and designing energy storage systems for various applications, providing pre-sales technical support, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring successful product integration and customer satisfaction in the ESS industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and conceptualize battery systems tailored for specific applications, optimizing performance, safety, and cycle life.
- Provide pre-sales technical support and develop documentation to ensure high-quality ESS system designs and successful customer engagement.
- Manage technical account engagements pre- and post-sales, including developing installation and operational plans.
- Support utility-scale and commercial projects with customized design solutions to secure design wins and reduce customer costs.
- Collaborate with R&D and product teams to identify product issues and recommend improvements.
- Coordinate field testing and gather feedback on new hardware and software products.
- Work closely with customer support to address technical issues and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Engage with customers and partners on ESS system applications, including system evaluation and integration with balance of system components.
- Develop technical documentation such as specifications, manuals, safety certifications, and proposals.
- Prioritize and manage technical support tasks within the sales pipeline to ensure project success.
- Coordinate with R&D, design, and pre-sales teams to prepare ESS products for market and support business wins.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of battery systems into larger products or systems.
- Lead the development and promotion of technical tools and training for sales teams and partners.
- Act as a technical liaison for customer feedback and field issues, facilitating communication between sales, support, and product management.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Mechanical Engineering (BSME), or Master of Science (MS) degree, with practical experience in distributed PV solar and energy storage system applications
- 2-5 years of experience in ESS engineering design, technical pre-sales support, and project management
- Strong knowledge of certification and regulatory codes for ESS installations and development
- Ability to conceptualize and design battery systems based on project requirements, including selecting appropriate battery chemistries, cell configurations, and packaging designs to optimize performance, energy density, safety, and cycle life
- Experience in systems design, module and pack design with a focus on design and application-oriented solutions for ESS applications
- Experience in pre-sales technical support for customer account engagements, including developing documentation, best practices, and training to ensure high-quality design and minimal post-sales technical support issues
- Experience in managing technical account engagements pre- and post-sales to develop and communicate comprehensive design, installation, and operational plans for successful ESS solution adoption
- Proficiency in supporting utility-scale and commercial projects with customized design support to ensure design wins and cost savings for customers
- Ability to lead product management and development of market training and technical tools addressing best practices and requirements
- Experience coordinating field testing and feedback collection for new hardware and software
- Ability to work closely with Customer Support to enable a closed-loop system on key technical and product issues and ensure high customer satisfaction
- Experience engaging with customers on ESS system applications and collaborating with partners for balance of system equipment providers, software EMS integration, and EPC
- Development of technical documentation including technical specifications, manuals, safety certifications, and technical diligence proposals
- Experience working with cross-functional teams such as electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers, and suppliers to ensure seamless integration of battery systems into larger products or systems
- Ability to participate in design reviews, meetings, and discussions to exchange ideas, provide technical expertise, and gather feedback
- Experience leading and collaborating with Product Management on technical tools and training, and driving adoption through sales teams, partners, and distributors
- Willingness to travel internationally
- Fluency in English; proficiency in German and/or Chinese is a plus
