Job Description
The role involves developing and maintaining a high-fidelity simulation platform for autonomous vehicle testing, focusing on integrating ROS2 middleware, scripting dynamic scenarios, configuring sensors, and ensuring reliable virtual environment performance to validate AI models in autonomous middle-mile logistics systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain ROS2 middleware layers for simulation integration
- Script and implement dynamic testing scenarios within the simulation environment
- Configure and tune simulated sensor suites to provide realistic data streams
- Collaborate to ensure simulation states and performance metrics are accurately streamed to dashboards
- Ensure simulations can run in headless mode within Docker containers for automated testing
- Manage serialization of ROS2 messages for post-simulation analysis and playback
Requirements
- Proficiency in ROS2 middleware layers, including node composition, custom message types, and QoS configuration, with mastery of ROS2 Humble, Foxy, or Jazzy.
- High proficiency in Python 3.x for scenario logic and Modern C for performance-critical nodes.
- Proven experience with at least one major simulation platform such as CARLA, Gazebo, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, or SVL.
- Experience building event-driven logic and adversarial agent behaviors within a simulated environment.
- Strong experience in Ubuntu-based Linux development and containerizing robotics stacks using Docker.
- Ability to debug complex timing and synchronization issues between a simulator and a distributed ROS2 stack.
- Experience scripting and implementing dynamic testing scenarios, including traffic interactions, pedestrian behavior, and triggered events, using Python or simulator-specific APIs.
- Experience configuring and tuning simulated sensor suites such as LiDAR, Camera, Radar, and IMU to provide realistic data streams for AI models.
- Experience collaborating with software engineers to ensure simulation states and success/failure metrics are correctly streamed to web-based dashboards.
- Ability to ensure simulations can run in headless mode within Docker containers for automated, large-scale cloud testing.
- Experience managing serialization of ROS2 messages (MCAP Bag files) for post-simulation analysis and playback.
- Onsite availability at the Mountain View, CA office 5 days a week.
