Job Description

The Chase Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely operating a passenger vehicle to support testing and deployment of autonomous trucks, monitoring traffic and vehicle status, and assisting the autonomous vehicle team to ensure safe and efficient operations during middle-mile freight deliveries.

Key Responsibilities

Manually operate a chase passenger vehicle following autonomous trucks during testing and deployment.
Maintain a safe following distance and protective buffer behind autonomous vehicles.
Monitor traffic conditions, road hazards, and autonomous vehicle status.
Support system disengagements, address issues, and execute emergency procedures.
Log and report observations, incidents, and environmental hazards.
Coordinate with the team to ensure smooth testing operations.
Comply with traffic laws, AV testing protocols, and safety standards.

Requirements

Successfully pass background and drug screenings.
Maintain a clean driving record.
Possess the ability to manually drive a chase passenger vehicle following a Gatik autonomous truck.
Maintain a safe following distance and protective buffer behind the autonomous vehicle (AV).
Monitor traffic conditions, road hazards, and AV status, and communicate updates effectively.
Support disengagements, system issues, and emergency response procedures during testing and deployment.
Log and report observations, incidents, or environmental hazards accurately.
Coordinate with the team to ensure smooth testing operations.
Comply with traffic laws and all AV testing and safety protocols.
Learn and adhere to company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with safe operations standards.
Have a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a passenger vehicle safely.
Adhere to all local, state, and federal AV testing regulations.
Maintain confidentiality of AV operations and technology.
Be adaptable to varied shift schedules, including evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
Work approximately 40-45 hours per week, with availability required across all 7 days.
Demonstrate initiative, proactivity, and a strong focus on safety and attention to detail.
Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with team members while also being capable of working independently.
