Job Description
The Safety Engineer will lead safety performance evaluations, analyze safety data, and develop risk mitigation strategies for autonomous trucking systems, ensuring safety standards and continuous improvement in fleet operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess safety performance using real-world and simulated data
- Lead post-deployment safety analyses and develop risk mitigation strategies
- Define, monitor, and analyze Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs) and KPIs
- Track safety trends, support safety dashboards, and enable real-time safety monitoring
- Leverage predictive analytics to forecast and prevent safety issues
- Evaluate vehicle and fleet deployments for safe integration into operations
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to embed safety in development and deployment processes
- Maintain and evolve the safety case to meet standards and regulations
- Support regulatory engagement and prepare safety documentation for audits and approvals
- Drive a safety-first culture through risk assessments, hazard analyses, and feedback loops
Requirements
- Master's degree in Safety, Mechanical, Automotive, Systems Engineering, or a related field; a PhD is a plus
- 3 to 5 years of experience in safety engineering within autonomous systems, transportation, or related fields
- Experience with Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs), KPIs, and managing both predictive and historical safety metrics
- Strong skills in safety performance evaluation, failure mode analysis, and event prediction
- Familiarity with safety standards and frameworks such as ISO 26262, UL4600, SAE J3016
- Experience with Safety Management System (SMS) design and implementation, data analysis, and fleet monitoring tools
- Excellent cross-functional communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to assess safety performance using real-world and simulated data
- Ability to lead post-deployment safety analyses and develop risk mitigation strategies
- Ability to define and track SPIs and KPIs to ensure safety goals are met
- Experience analyzing fleet-wide safety trends, supporting safety dashboards, and enabling real-time safety monitoring
- Experience evaluating vehicle and fleet deployments for safe integration into operations
- Ability to partner with engineering, product, and operations teams to embed safety in development and deployment processes
- Experience maintaining and evolving safety cases to meet internal and external standards
- Experience supporting regulatory engagement and preparing safety documentation for audits and approvals
- Knowledge of vehicle dynamics, sensors, and regulatory frameworks relevant to autonomous trucking safety
Benefits & Perks
Salary range of $160,000 to $240,000
