Job Description
The Autonomous Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely operating Gatik's class 3-7 trucks on designated routes to ensure timely deliveries, collect data to support autonomous driving technology development, and maintain safety and customer service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate class 3-7 delivery vehicles manually to ensure on-time deliveries and safety.
- Drive assigned routes to collect data supporting the development of autonomous driving technology.
- Assist with loading and unloading goods securely using appropriate equipment.
- Perform routine vehicle checks to maintain safety and operational standards.
- Update dispatch team on route and shift status.
- Ensure compliance with company SOPs and safety procedures.
Requirements
- Possesses a valid CDL with 3 years of driving experience or is a non-CDL candidate encouraged to apply, and maintains a clean driving record.
- Successfully passes background and drug screenings.
- Comfortable operating box trucks 26-30 feet, with or without a refrigerated unit.
- Demonstrates initiative, proactivity, and a strong focus on detail and safety.
- Communicates clearly and collaborates effectively, while also thriving in independent work settings.
- Tech-savvy and adaptable to varied shift schedules, including evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
- Able to manually drive the vehicles on assigned, consistent routes to gather route data supporting future autonomous operations.
- Able to assist with safe, secure loading and unloading of customer goods using equipment such as pallet jacks, carts, dollies, lift gates, handbombing, etc.
- Performs daily routine checks to ensure operation and safety of trucks, including monitoring fluid levels, tire pressure, and hose connections.
- Updates the dispatch team on shift and route status.
- Ensures vehicles arrive at pick-up and drop-off locations on time and the integrity of goods is retained on each journey.
- Follows company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensures compliance with safe operations standards.
- Participates in ad-hoc projects such as truck delivery to new locations, testing, or installing new equipment.
- Has the ability to work shifts that typically begin at 2:00 AM and run 8 to 12 hours, ending around 2:00-3:00 PM, with weekly hours expected to be 40-45 hours per week, across all 7 days.
