Job Description

A Software Development Engineer II at Esri will develop advanced GIS software solutions utilizing computer vision, AI, and machine learning techniques to extract and analyze geospatial data from various imaging sources, supporting infrastructure and asset management projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and implement computer vision and AI techniques for geospatial object extraction and change detection
  • Design and develop scalable software utilizing computer vision on various geospatial data types
  • Integrate and optimize AI/ML models into production environments ensuring performance and accuracy
  • Evaluate emerging AI/ML methods and frameworks relevant to GIS and computer vision
  • Support the production deployment of algorithms and models in C and C++
  • Ensure code quality, scalability, and maintainability through best practices and code reviews
  • Contribute to system architecture and design discussions for performance-critical applications
  • Collaborate with researchers, developers, and product engineers throughout the development process

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years of professional software development experience, with a focus on AI, machine learning, and/or computer vision.
  • Experience with modern computer vision models such as YOLO, SAM, DINO, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with machine learning frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
  • Hands-on experience with computer vision and AI machine learning, including feature detection, segmentation, extraction, change detection, model evaluation, and training.
  • Experience with integrating models into production systems using C and C++.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct, with strong problem-solving and research skills, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt emerging technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a STEM-related field.
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Experience with graphics programming such as gaming, GIS, or similar applications.
  • Ability to support the production integration of algorithms and models, ensuring performance and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of software design, testing, and version control best practices.
