Job Description
The position involves leading and providing technical expertise in research projects related to environmental sciences, including atmospheric sciences, emission characterization, and air quality modeling, while managing specialized laboratories and mentoring junior staff within a fast-paced research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and provide technical expertise in the development, design, and execution of research projects related to environmental sciences.
- Manage and operate specialized laboratories and facilities, including fabrication shops, metrology labs, and microbiological facilities.
- Design, develop, and optimize solutions for research projects.
- Lead technical projects and mentor junior team members.
- Prepare work plans, quality assurance project plans (QAPPs), health and safety plans, and technical reports for research activities.
Requirements
- Must have a strong technical foundation in engineering, science, or related fields relevant to research and development activities.
- Must have experience in designing, developing, and optimizing solutions for research projects.
- Must have experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior team members.
- Must have the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have the ability to prepare work plans, quality assurance project plans (QAPPs), health and safety plans, and technical reports for research projects.
- Must have experience in managing and operating specialized laboratories and machine shops, including fabrication machine shops, metrology laboratories, and analytical and microbiological facilities.
- Must have a strong problem-solving ability and the capacity to collaborate across teams to drive innovation.
- Must have experience in research activities such as decontamination and consequence management studies, development and validation of measurement methods, source emission characterization, and data collection research in atmospheric sciences, physical, chemical, biological, toxicological, and human and ecological exposure development, evaluation, and application of air quality simulation modeling.
- Must have the ability to lead and provide technical expertise in the development, design, and execution of research projects for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s EPA Office of Research and Development.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a research or engineering environment (implied by senior-level professional requirement).
- Must have a relevant educational background, such as a bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, science, or a related field (implied requirement).
