Job Description
The Quality Supervisor oversees and improves quality control processes at a wood pellet manufacturing plant, managing laboratory operations, ensuring product quality standards, leading troubleshooting efforts, and supervising plant personnel to maintain safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and improve plant operations impacting product quality and customer specifications
- Manage laboratory operations, including supervising, training, and certifying operators, and maintaining testing equipment and records
- Develop, audit, and maintain quality control tools, test procedures, and ensure accurate and timely testing of samples
- Analyze finished goods quality metrics, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
- Develop best practices for handling, storage, and preservation of pellets to ensure quality and safety
- Conduct special-project tests to investigate quality issues and optimize operations across plants
- Lead and instruct hourly employees on quality standards, SOPs, and corrective actions, including conducting pre-shift meetings and observations
- Supervise receiving personnel and support plant safety and operational procedures
- Coordinate with teams to fulfill customer requirements and maintain product quality standards
Requirements
- At least 4 years experience in Quality, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity or equivalent education
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time and be able to respond quickly to changing priorities
- Desire to learn quickly and be challenged to take on higher levels of responsibility
- High degree of professionalism and integrity, holding self and other accountable
- Ability to lead hourly team members and flexibility to work odd hours when required to support plant
- Must be able to work in environments that reach temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees
- Able to work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment
- Able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment
- Majority of time spent in lab setting, with time in field to collect samples and troubleshoot results
- Climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces on an occasional basis up to 100 ft
- Must be able to push, pull, and lift items up to 50 lbs
- Able to frequently walk or stand and to bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift items above shoulders on an occasional basis
- Must use required provided PPE such as safety glasses, hard hat, steel toe boots, and hearing protection
- Travel from time-to-time for training or other work-related assignments (not on a regular basis)
