Job Description

The Senior Data Engineer at EnergyHub is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale data processing systems to support virtual power plant operations, enabling efficient management of distributed energy resources and contributing to decarbonization efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manage data ingestion, processing, and storage processes for billions of data points with a focus on performance, security, and compliance
  • Manage access, roles, and security for Snowflake data platform
  • Architect data schemas and data flow collaboratively with team and product stakeholders
  • Monitor and optimize cloud costs related to data infrastructure
  • Mentor and train team members and cross-functional partners in data engineering best practices
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and partner teams to build scalable data solutions
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and observability for troubleshooting and system reliability
  • Develop and maintain documentation for data processes and systems

Requirements

  • Proven proficiency with AWS, Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Docker, Fivetran, Hightouch, Sigma, Jira, Confluence, Slack, or comparable counterparts, at least
  • A storied career in data engineering, with experience in scaling systems many times over and handling unexpected data scenarios
  • Experience designing processes for ingesting, processing, observing, and maintaining billions of data points with performance, accuracy, security, and compliance in mind
  • Ability to manage access, roles, and security for Snowflake instances
  • Experience architecting schema and data flow through a collaborative and inclusive process
  • Ability to collaborate with team and product to balance business-driven and team-driven priorities to maximize velocity and reliability
  • Experience monitoring cloud costs across tools to maintain efficiency and justify expenses
  • Mentoring and training team members and other business units
  • Building and maintaining relationships with diverse partner teams, including engineering, operations, and business development
  • A proven track record in data engineering, including solidly-architected systems and thorough analyses
  • Obsessive drive for quality and performance in data processes and systems
  • Strong communication skills, with a penchant for concise clarity in communication, code, and documentation
  • Warmth and inclusiveness towards colleagues, with a willingness to help others succeed
  • Understanding of OLAP and OLTP RDBMS systems, with experience planning and implementing high-performance data processes using both
  • Proactive approach to observability, ensuring relevant details are logged for rapid troubleshooting and resolution
  • Proficiency with the full data engineering toolkit including AWS, Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Docker, Fivetran, Hightouch, Sigma, Jira, Confluence, Slack, or comparable tools
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, with the ability to bring clarity to complex syntax
  • Ability to work with modern tooling and data management practices
  • Physical and mental capacity to work fully from the office with occasional remote work flexibility
  • Educational background or equivalent experience in data engineering or related field
  • Ability to handle responsibilities related to data security, compliance, and lifecycle management
