Job Description

The Sr. Scientist, Project Lead at e-Zinc will drive the development and characterization of oxygen evolution and reduction electrodes for innovative energy storage technology, combining electrochemical expertise with project leadership in a fast-paced, collaborative environment focused on advancing clean energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and own the technical development and characterization of oxygen evolution and reduction electrodes from TRL 1 to 4.
  • Propose and develop concepts to address technical issues and meet performance targets based on scientific principles.
  • Manage external collaborators and suppliers to develop new technologies and advance understanding.
  • Plan and execute experimental work, including electrochemical, chemical, and physical testing of electrodes.
  • Analyze test data and communicate results through presentations and technical reports.
  • Collaborate across functions to progress technology development and integration into products.
  • Contribute to intellectual property development through patent applications and trade secrets.
  • Mentor and foster a high-performing, solution-oriented team culture.
  • Maintain a safe work environment for all team members.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science or related field plus 10 years of industrial work experience in relevant fields.
  • Experience leading and coordinating cross-functional projects with external collaborators and partners, with a track record of success.
  • Expert-level understanding and experience in oxygen evolution and reduction electrodes.
  • Strong understanding of electrode fabrication processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical systems, such as metal-air batteries, fuel cells and electrolyzers.
  • Deep understanding and experience in performing electrochemical testing and data analysis, including techniques such as Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Tafel analysis.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must be a self-starter and adaptive learner, motivated to strive and succeed in a start-up environment.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
