The OT SCADA Engineer supports and maintains SCADA systems for utility-scale solar projects, ensuring reliable monitoring, control, and cybersecurity, while collaborating with field and engineering teams to optimize solar asset operations.
Key Responsibilities
Design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems using Ignition and Cimplicity
Integrate solar plant equipment such as inverters, meters, trackers, and weather stations into SCADA systems
Support real-time monitoring and control of solar assets from centralized control rooms
Develop HMI GUI screens, dashboards, and alarm management systems
Troubleshoot SCADA communication protocols including Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3, OPC, SNMP
Support upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management of SCADA and network systems
Configure and maintain industrial networking infrastructure using Cisco switches
Implement VLANs, trunking, port security, and QoS for OT networks
Deploy and manage Palo Alto Networks firewalls for cybersecurity segmentation and compliance
Monitor and respond to network and SCADA system performance issues
Collaborate with engineering, IT, and field teams for commissioning and integrating new sites
Maintain system documentation, network diagrams, and configuration backups
Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards such as NERC CIP and ISA IEC 62443
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience
At least 3 years of experience in SCADA OT environments, preferably in renewable energy
Hands-on experience with Ignition SCADA and Cimplicity platforms
Experience with GE Digital Industrial communication protocols including Modbus, DNP3, and OPC
Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, and switching
Experience configuring Cisco switches, e.g., Catalyst 2960 and 9300 series
Experience deploying and managing Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including NAT, security policies, and VPNs
Familiarity with OT cybersecurity best practices
Experience with industrial networking infrastructure and protocols
Familiarity with RTAC controllers, Emerson RX3i controllers, or similar SCADA controllers
Ability to design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems using Ignition and Cimplicity
Ability to support real-time monitoring and control of solar assets from centralized control rooms
Ability to develop HMI GUI screens, dashboards, and alarm management systems
Troubleshooting skills for SCADA communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3, OPC, SNMP
Support for upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management of SCADA and network systems
Ability to configure and maintain industrial networking infrastructure including VLANs, trunking, port security, and QoS
Monitor and respond to network and SCADA system performance issues
Collaborate with engineering, IT, and field teams for commissioning and integration of new sites
Maintain system documentation, network diagrams, and configuration backups
Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards including NERC CIP and ISA IEC 62443
Willingness to support occasional travel to solar sites and participate in on-call rotation for critical system support
Location preference for Durham, NC, with approximately 10% travel to field sites
